First Day

Masaya volcano – Catarina - San Juan del Sur

Departure to Masaya, Nicaraguan capital of folklore. We will visit the Masaya Volcano National Park and go right to the edge of the active crater, which is the habitat of a species of parakeets and parrots adapted to volcanic activity. We will then go to Catarina and have lunch and visit the vantage point where one can see the crater which contains the Apoyo lagoon. We will continue our journey to the sunny beach of San Juan del Sur. Dinner and accommodation in San Juan del Sur

 

Second Day

Ometepe – Granada Colonial City

7:00 a.m.

Breakfast at the hotel 

Departure to San Juan del sur to board the ferry that will take us from San Jorge to Ometepe island, declared a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO. This unique island has two volcanoes, Concepcion and Maderas, with an altitude of 1.610m. Due to the two volcanoes, the island looks like a figured eight when seen from above.

 

10:30 a.m.

Arrival to the island. We start our tour visiting the Numismatic Museum-La Ceiba, which shows the pre-Columbian life of our ancestors and the history of our currency, with a collection of approximately 850 pieces including national notes and coins.

 

We will visit Playa Santo Domingo to enjoy a delicious lunch at local restaurant. In Santo Domingo enjoy a rural setting and abundant nature and a return visit the Ojo de Agua. At the end of the day we left the port of San Jorge, heading to the colonial city of Granada, founded by the Spanish in 1524 and considered the oldest city on the mainland of the Americas. Dinner and accommodation in Granada. Evening at leisure

 

Third Day

Granada – El Castillo - Río San Juan

7:00 a.m.

Breakfast

 

8:00 a.m.

We will leave Granada and prepare for the 250 mile journey to the historic destination to San Juan River, lunch on route. We will arrive at San Carlos, port and coastal town, where we will embark to go down the river San Juan to the Castle of Immaculate Conception (El Castillo). At night you have the option (if the weather permits) to go in search of alligators. Dinner and accommodation at the village of El Castillo.

 

Fourth Day

7:00 a.m.

Breakfast

 

8:00 a.m.

Departure to the Fortress of the Immaculate Conception, known as El Castillo, a seventeenth century fort, built by the Spanish to defend the territory from the English, Dutch and French pirates. We will continue our journey through the San Juan River to the Bartola refuge, which is the beginning of the Indio Maiz Biological Reserve.

After touring a part of this unexplored virgin rainforest, we will go back to San Carlos where we will have lunch and return to our Hotel in Managua.

 

Fifth Day

Transfer to Managua International Airport
